Gebchak Gonpa hosts a Nyingma Monlam (Prayer Ceremony) each year in September. Ten full days of prayer are dedicated for world peace. It is popularly known as “Jama Monlam”, named after the place, blessed by Guru Rinpoche, where it is held (not at Gebchak). Gebchak Nunnery sponsors and organizes the entire event. In 2010 the Monlam drew many thousands of Tibetan people who came especially to pray for the victims of the April earthquake in Yushu. The Gebchak lamas and other prominent lamas of Nangchen county preside at the Monlam, while the Gebchak nuns lead the chanting and rituals. Gebchak nuns generally run the entire organization of feeding and housing the guests, donations, distribution of books and food, etc.
